This evening at 22:30 I was travelling south on MN trunk highway 65 approaching the Paul Parkway stoplight while following a late 80's mustang LX 5.0 with a Mitsubishi 2 door something or another with stovepipes, spoiler and fat thug tires on sawblade rims. We had to stop for the light and while waiting the Mitsubishi was revving up his motor to entice the mustang to a stoplight race. The light turned green and ALL of us gunned the throttle. The mustang lost traction completly and was passed by the Mits, I was behind the mustang and had to wait for him to recover and by this time we were coming to the 3 lane split for US-10 on a red light. The Mustang was poised to the outside lane to my right, I was in the center lane with the Mits to my left. I watched the lights sequence and began to run my motor (D24T) to 2600 RPM while the Mits held idle and the mustang wildly revving up and down. The light turns green and I react with 100% throttle and 50% clutch feather to hold my engine in the powerband. The mustang once again lost traction while the mits and me went for broke. I completly wasted the mitsubishi by 3rd gear with the mustang passing me slowly until I was at about 4200 in 3rd, when I went for 4th we were side by side (his was auto) closing in on 100 MPH shortly thereafter. The only time I lost ground to the mustang was in my shifts but never passed him. We came to the next stoplight when the passenger of the mustang rolled down the window, I could see he was a wild eyed teenager. "Is that thing really a diesel?? Holy sh*t!" I nod and he yells to his friend in the driver seat "You got your ass kicked by a ***DAMN Diesel you *ock-knocker!!!" By this time I was laughing so hard I didnt even notice the light change and him peeling off into the distance. The mitsubishi didnt give up so easily and we again went for broke this time down county road 10, I handed him his ass back on a silver platter by the time we made it to the 35W entrance. Traffic was very light so 80+ runs were quite easy and he split off towards St Paul while I continued down 35W south looking for more prey.
