After 195,000 miles my starter has given up the ghost but another one has risen from the ashes.
All my warning lights stay on after starting.
I recently had to replace the battery after a no start, but before it died
all the warning lights had stayed on, the tach stopped working , the speedometer went 360 degrees around the dial and the fuel and temp.
gauges weren't responding normally.
After refusing to start the other day unless the starter was tapped with a hammer the car quit completely on the way home and required a tow to the shop. Before it quit the engine went 'of song' as if it was switched to
a very rich setting, started running rough then stopped all together.
The battery was still up to charge with all electricals working but no
response from the starter.
I'm replacing the starter and solenoid but would like to know if the short in the starter could be the causeing the gauges and warning lights to go haywire?
Any thoughts and insight you may have on this problem will be very helpful.
Thanks for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Peter N. Carbone
