Drive shaft twist? 200 1984

Is it possible for the rear half of the drive shaft to be twisted?

Trying to resolve a drive shaft vibration, I replaced the center bearing support which was torn. Aligned the spline properly. Vibration still present. On further inspection, it appeares that the u-joint yolks on the rear half of the shaft don't line up. The rear section is made of two "telescoping" pieces of tubing, joined somewhere down inside the larger.

Is this actually a three-piece drive shaft (with the rear section designed to collapse under impact, maybe)? Can it have twisted? I have also been hearing/feeling a substantial mechanical "pop" on assertive departure from stop on some occasions.

Torque rod bushings (ipd poly) inspected and fine; TA bushings new (dealer-sourced parts) in the last six months; trans and motor mounts inspected and fine. No wrecks (owned since new).
