Here is a picture of V2's interior. Not finished but looking like I want it to look. Needs detailing and such but ...I'm happy. Radio is a tape player and temporary because I listen to books on tape all the time. I have the stainless plates but I am not sure the final configuration so it will look like this for a while. CD perhaps soon but I want to shake down the whole car before I start introducing complex components. Not alot of room before the wipers so I need to be careful. All wiring comes and goes through the toggle switches located below the radio. No original wires at all. Dash was fabricated by a friend from 3/8" aluminum and Speedometer is from a late 1800ES (it was in Virgil RIP)Water temp and Gas Gauge are Autometer aftermarket.
Defroster is bad design as far as I can tell. I have lots of hot water and great fan but it pumps into the dash top and vents through some deflectors at the windshield. Not much power heat to the glass. If you take the ashtray out the hot air comes through that hole. Only one place to direct the hot air in so it just must mean the 544 was better designed when it comes to defrosters.
Wipers are 12v electric but I don't get a full sweep on the drivers side and too much on the passenger. Probably have the wrong arms running off the motor but that's another story.
The Stick Shift is a shorty and I have the wrong "button" on top. This setup takes a relay and my system is straight through 12v. So I need to get a "sliding" switch as this "button" will only turn on the OD when the button is depressed. Kind of tiring. The little toggle below (on the tunnel) also turns on the OD so I have a backup. If anybody has a 240 sliding switch shift knob...that works...I'm interested.
Thanks
