Wipers/electrical problem 200 1981

I don't know what model exactly, my husband thinks it a 242. 1981. We're having electrical problems. The wipers and stereo keep cutting out. When it started, it only happened when the car interior got hot (the heat won't turn off). Now it happens all the time. I'm assuming the wipers and the stereo are connected. What should I be looking for? Do you think the heat problem is related? I'm pretty new to car repairs, but I'm eager to learn. Thanks so much. Eleanor
