Just got a '68 144 today, One of many ?'s to come! 140-160 1968

Hi everyone. So I purchased a fixer upper today. '68 144, nice interior, 101,000 miles on original engine. $250. Now I have many questions regarding work that needs to be done but I will stick with one question at a time as I know many other people are going to need assistance with their bricks as well.
So here's my question. It's regarding the steering. Now I am aware it does not have power steering, BUT being a strapping young lad, is it normal to BREAK A SWEAT doing a three point turn? I'm serious! it is VERY HARD to even turn the wheel at all. Feels like trying to turn the wheel on a car after it stalls out or when it's not on. Do you know what I mean? I don't imagine this is normal to the extent that it is.
So is there anything that I can do or even my mechanic can do to fix it a little bit? Are there improvements for this? I heard about the steering in them seizing up if not taken care of?
Sorry about the long post for one question!
