I am wondering about the availability of aftermarket or heavy duty OEM springs?
My 444 is finally starting to get some road time (although we are in a temporary hiatus while we search for a short in the turn signal circuit), and while I am generally happy with the spring rates, I would be interested in a set of overload springs for the rear (and possibly a slightly stiffer spring for the front as well), but the only thing that I have been able to find thus far are for the 122, 140, and 145 series vintage Volvos. Does anyone make a heavy duty spring for the 444/544?
Also, I am hoping to purchase and install a set of the IPD anti-sway bars, but I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the underside of their car with them mounted. Due to all the changes that we made when switching to the Ford engine, I would like to get an idea of where the bars attach and sit in order to ensure that I can still easily install them.
We replaced the driveshaft, rear axle (and differential), with a Ford rear end, including the wheel hubs/brakes, but it is mounted in the same fashion and uses the same suspension components as the Volvo used originally. We also replaced the Volvo trunk with a Volkswagen trunk and did some body work in the trunk floor area, so I am not sure what, if any, areas used for mounting the rear sway bar have been altered, or even how much they have been altered. A picture of the sway bars mounted on the car would go a long way in helping me figure it out.
The front frame and suspension were completely unaltered and are still original Volvo equipment, and so I think that the front sway bars should not be an issue, but it would be nice to have pictures just to be certain.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
