Oil trap hose into block, need help. 200

I thought I'd make a quick Friday evening project out of changing my oil trap, o-ring and hose. Ha! That's what I thought.

It appears that I left that old hose in the block for too long. When I went to pull it out it moved about a quarter inch and no more. When I used a little more force a ring of hose tore off the top and left about half the remaining diameter below the lip of the block. The other half is still even with the lip, but that's my lifeline right now. I don't want to tear that also.

When this happened I closed up shop for the evening, feeling that time and distance are sometimes the best tools.

Has anyone ever encountered this situation? How did you handle it? It seems that having that hose end up totally inside the block would be very bad news.

I'll put my own idea out there for feedback. What if I used a wire hanger with a small hook bent into the end, fed the hanger through the hose and hooked it from the bottom?

Thanks for your help.
