Differential fluid? 140-160

I discovered last night that my diff. fluid looks like muddy water. I think I'll change it tonight. Is there a fluid that is recommended? What weight and grade is required? This is for my 1970 142S. Also, I'm assuming that I drain by removing the cover? Do I NEED a gasket to re-seal, or can I use a chemical gasket?
