Power steering question 700 1991

The power steering in my '91 740 sprung a serious leak. One of the steel pipes that run along the rack has apparently rusted through. (Also had this problem with the banjo fitting on the high-pressure hose this summer. New England salt on the winter roads does a job...)

The steel line runs from one end of the rack to the other end, above the rack, inside the crossmember.

Anybody ever replaced those steel lines? Do I drop the rack for access? (I've disconnected both ends of the line, but it appears impossible to withdraw it without first gaining working room.)

Hints?
