Thanks, I'm glad to get another confirmation regarding the NOx reduction.

But I can't claim credit for the idea -- only for finding it thanks to Google, and posting it here on the BrickBoard. My interpretation is that it's not so much retarding the timing, but preventing the high initial off-throttle advance. Other side of the same coin maybe?
