Towing opinions: 940 vs 960 900

For the last several years I've been successfully towing our boat with a '93 940 wagon. We recently bought a '95 960 wagon (smoother on the commute to work) that is set up for towing as well. Does the extra power of the 960 make for better towing, or is the solid axle of the 940 better for getting up the boat ramp? I live in a rather flat area, so other than the boat ramp, I won't be dealing with mountains or hills.
