AMM Problem, Can't find it in the FAQ 700 1990

This is a 1990 Non turbo GL Wagon. The car starts find and for the most part it runs ok for a while. At times it will quit and start find except when I put it in drive, it will quit. I checked the Air Control Valve and it's working find. The AMM is not the one with the large wire connector on it. It has a two plug connector similar to the one on the Air Control Valve. I unplugged the AMM and the car does not do anything, it runs the same way. Again, it starts find, it only hesitates when it goes into gear, either reverse or drive. Once its been running for a while, then if I stop, it will die and it will start find but it will die on take off. May be I need a new AMM. Any help is appreciated. The car is with my daughter in GA, and I am in DE.
