Temperature Comp Board bypass: Questions for the post-party 200 1993

After getting tired of beating the crap out of the plastic on my son's 240 to get the temp gauge to work (which it does, but only after 3-4 hard bangs on the plastic window), I am going to bypass it using the IPD instructions w/ some wire and solder. My questions are:
#1 What size wire do i need to use to solder?
#2 What do I need to look out for regarding the rise and fall of my temp gauge? ( will it read about the same, fluctuations, etc.)

Again all input appreciated!
