Ignition module plug - 87- 240 B230F

Can the wire plug to the Volvo/Chrysler ignition module be safely disconnected and reconnected without damage to the pins?

The service manual warns that removal of this plug will damage the plug and render it useless. I need to replace some the wires with crumbling insulation.

Should I just cut the wires close to the module and make the mechanical connection there, or can I actually remove the connector and rebuilt it with new wires? I have managed to rebuild/clean/seal from oxydation many connectors, but I'm not familiar with this one. Any guidance as to what to look for would be really helpful.
