ANSWER LH Injector Seals + Icky Shift Lever 200 1988

1: Yes, the cap with the hole in it snaps over the tip of the injector, they help with proper fuel atomization. To get paint to stick, I'd recommend removing the rest of the chrome via sanding, then prime it and paint. Other option would be to buy a new chrome cover from the dealer.

2: I painted the one in our 92 flat black, like it should have been in the first place. To remove the cover, the first step is to gently pry out the OD button on the side of the shift knob and unplug the wires. Next find an open ended wrench that fits around the cover but is narrower than the bottom of the shift knob. Now cover the knob with a zip lock bag (to catch the spring and button). Now put that wrench around the shaft cover just beneath the shift knob. Now strike the wrench upward and the knob should pop off.

From there, the shaft cover can be pulled straight up for removal. During reassembly, just make sure not to pinch the nitrous button (I mean OD button)wires between the knob and shaft. To reinstall the knob, press the knob back down on the shaft while feeding the wires into the OD button hole. Then insert the top button spring and press the top button down until it clicks. Plug wires back into the nitrous button and press it back into the side of the knob.

Hope that helps
