Speaker Disappointment 900 1993

I have always been so delighted with my factory sound system, that I always assumed my car had an 8 speaker setup. I recently removed a rear door panel to replace a broken window and found out I have no rear door speakers! I do have hat-shelf speakers. The back doors, however, have holes to mount speakers and a pair of speaker wires lying there. Can I buy a pair of speakers and simply connect them to these wires? Or do I need to make a special connection at the dash or get a different amp? The car is a 1993 940 Turbo Sedan with a CR radio.
Thanks!
