Hey guys,
I have hesitation when accelerating from a stop. After looking over the FAQs I believe it is due to a problem related to the pre-pump.
I say this because I have completed quite a bit of maintenance that should take care of many of the other reasons the FAQ has suggested could cause a hesitation. (cleaned throttle body, changed plugs, wires, rotor, cap, air filter, fuel filter)
I looked over some of the diagnostics for a failing pre-pump and condcted a few tests:
When I turn the key before starting I hear the fuel pump come on for a second and then cut out, so pressure seems to be building up.
Listened for buzzing in the tank, it was definitely there, and I had my buddy pull the pre-pump fuse, the buzzing went away, put the fuse back and I heard it come back on. So, the pump is running.
While listening in the tank I swear I could hear a trickling water sound, as if fuel was drippping back into the tank. From what I've read, this makes me think there may be a hole in the outlet hose that is leaking fuel. Am I jumping to conclusions here? The tank was a bit over half full, if that matters.
Possibly Important Observation - Twice in the past month I have had trouble starting the car, it wouldn't start, I waited a minute, and then it started. I do not usually have problems with hard starting. These both occurred immediately after I filled up my tank and was trying to leave the gas station.
So, the FAQ is leading me to believe it may be the outlet hose from the pre-pump, or the sock on the pre-pump. Does this sound right? Are there other things I should test?
