Time 4 a new old brick 700

I am looking at a 1984 740 GLE. It has what I believe is a 23ET. Intercooled Garret turbo with crank driven distributer. 103K from a North Carolina mountain air climate.

I am also looking at '91 740 turbo (with the weaker mitsu turbo). 72K from south shore long island salty air climate.

I now have a '92 960 it's been nice but I miss my old '86 760 turbo. I miss the vacuum operated tranny, the sound of 8 valves, and a smooth turbo whine.

I don't like FWD (850s and S70s). I've driven the S90's and they feel like over boosted vague GMs.

What's the consensus you guys? Please give opinions. Where can I find a nice 2.3 with a Garret and a distributer off the cam? If not, what's the best choice of the above.

Seeking Sage Wisdom,
-Bob
