Last night my wife and I ran to Wal Mart to do some shopping. When we came out the car started but had a little trouble. After we got home we were going to go out to my parents but when I turned the key to start the car there was a click noise and that was it. I read everything I could find about it and here is some of the information that may be important.
1)The head lights can turn on and don't look dim at all, when I turn the key all the way to start they turn completely off as does the radio. However a few of the lights on the dashboard stay on without dimming as does the light on the car door.
2)I tried "rocking" the car back and forth as supposedly that can help it start a few more times if it is the starter that has gone bad and it didn't help.
3)Tried jumping it in case it is the battery. Car reacted in the same way while the jumper cables were on.
4)Cleaned the battery cables.
5)Every now and then during the summer after using the car for an extended period of time or on really hot day it wouldn't do anything when we tried to start it until we let it cool down for an hour or so. (I'm not sure if the two problems are related.)
6)Now whenever I turn the key from off position to start I get one of three results.
A. Clicks once and then does nothing.
B. Clicks repeatedly but does nothing.
C. No click at all and does nothing.
And with all of the results the headlights turn completely off until I release the key then they come back on undimmed.
