740 turbo exterior fuel pump 700 1992

looking to replace the exterior fuel pump on my '92 740 turbo. I have the new one and would like to do the job this weekend. I will have jacks to get the car lifted... but only as high as jacks go. I am not a mechanic but trying to save a tow truck fee as well as $250 labor. Is this job recommended? I also have not found much help with the exterior pump but a lot of info on the in tank pump. Looking for instruction link or advice.
