We have this 82 240T that I changed the turbo on 6 months ago. It went from a Garrett to a Mitsu (from a 91 940SE). It has the later manifold and obviously required some modifications to the downpipe and the oil feed/drain lines.
I noticed it was leaking air between the turbo and the manifold, so I pulled the turbo and made a gasket and took the opportunity to change the exhaust from the cat back.
When I first put everything together, it was puking oil from the oil feed line to the turbo. I fixed that with a new soft line (I took new hard lines from a B230 and cut them, then slipped an AN line over it -- the clamps were fine the first time, but apparently didn't tighten up enough the second time) and new clamps. So we drive it for a few days and I find that it's still puking oil, but not as bad. Get under it while it's running and I find it's coming from the filter. Ok, maybe it's a bad filter. I change the oil and put a new filter on. Run it for a few days and it's still creating oil spots.
So tonight I degreased the engine and then ran it while it was still wet and clean. It started leaking again at the same spot. It's never done this before. Since it is a B21FT with an auto trans, could it be the oil cooler fitting to the block? From what I can see, it appears to be coming from between the filter and the cooler adapter. And yes, I checked for old gaskets from filters and stuff on there -- when I did the oil change, I used parts cleaner and wiped off the mating surface.
What should I try next? Should I pull the filter and try retightening the oil cooler jacket?
This is a new one on me for all the 240's I've ever owned. Thx.
