Can I make my own dashpad ? 444-544

Any suggestions on making a dash pad are welcome.
Suggested materials and any techniques.
Just has to look decent I know it won't be blow molded.

Has anyone just sanded down their metal dash and painted?

Working on 2 cars at the same time..
One is on the road and the other one is just hours away from being ready.

Any substitute for fender lace and modestly priced windlace..
Also what size is the windlace and approximately how much is needed.

Last but not least is the headliner..
Looking to buy or trade or alternate route suggestion...

These are not show cars...

To all-Thanks all for the tips, insight, info and support I've gotten from the board..I'm looking forward to adding constructive information.

c'ya on the road,
