1987 turbo wagon brakes lights fail 700 1987

About 6 months ago both brake tail lights failed. Press on the brake peddle and nothin. Bulbs and fuses check OK. Checked the brake peddle switch and ok too. I found a posting here about the red cylinder like relay that is located behind the radio. We located 1 at a volvo "junk yard". installed and "wall- La. " brakes lights work, and now so does the cruize control that quit about 2 years prior.

Well. Last night I got stopped by the police. No brake lights again. Turn signals work. So do the tail light when the head lamps are on. could it be that this replacement relay failed? Or is there something else we shoudl be looking into?

We are sure looking for ideas here.
Thanks in advance.
Brian
