Charging/ Alternator problems 200 1986

I need some help figuring out what going on with my charging system. I just put a new alternator in and the voltage out put is good with the engine running - 14.0 volts. The problem is as I start to turn on stuff the voltage really dorps. If I turn on the headlights, fan, and brake lights the voltage reads 12.0 and keeps falling. After awile with these circuits on the alternator will heat up and stop charging completely. Why can't the alternator make enough power to keep up with these basic circuits?

I've measure the voltage drop between the alt output and battery + terminal. It was .05 volts. I measure the voltage drop from the alternator to starter. It was .04 volts.

I'm realy at a loss as to where the problem is or what to try next. Can anyone help?
