When all else fails, get on BB.
I have an 89 240. It didn't run and had been sitting for 3yrs. when I picked it up a couple of years ago for $200. I'm the second owner and after much troubleshooting and good advice from BB responses, traced it to the ECU. Picked up new and it's ran great ever sense, at least until lately.
Starts up fine after sitting over night. When I drive it for short or long distances and it's set for a short of long time it's getting increasingly difficult to restart. At time's I need to let it sit over night wherever it's parked. I'll go back the next morning and it starts right up. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it may or may not start. It turns over strong however.
What I've done:
From my parts car I've swapped the coil, fuel pump relay, filter and external pump. Today I replaced the line pressure regulator. Still won't start.
Nothing much to do with it, but let in sit in the driveway. I'm having to drive my wife's Honda . . . I miss my 240.
I'd appreciate any tips on a solution.
thanks,
Steve
