94 940 Stereo Issues 900 1994

Hello,

I have a friend with a 94 940 with the CR-814 stereo. Recently the stereo just decided to go quiet (at full volume on the knob, there is barely sound at the speakers). I've been trying to pinpoint the problem before replacing the unit--things are tight, but having a radio would be nice.

I realize this car has an amp (I can see the wire plugged into the stereo that goes to it). I have not yet pulled the amp out to inspect... I suppose my question is, could this possibly be something as simple as a blown fuse or loose wire? Is there a fuse on the amp somewhere? Or is this even related to the amp? Also, if I did decide to replace the unit, I have an old generic tape/radio that we could put in. How hard is it to just bypass the amp? or is that possible?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys!!
