740 Ti Won't start in very cold weather 700 1989

Hi,

We have an '89 740 Ti (LH 2.2) which we got from the USA (we live in Canada). It has ~175,000 miles on it.

It starts just fine when it's -10C - 15C or warmer but the darn thing just won't start whenever it gets real cold, say below -20 C. The battery is ok but after a bit of cranking it goes dead. But the car is very hard to start even when being jump started. I had a friend try to jump start me with his truck and I had to crank the thing for about 30 minutes before it finally started. It was about -25C.

Our '95 940 T (LH 2.4), on the other hand, starts as easy as anything in the same cold weather. Just fires right up no problem.

Is LH 2.2 reputed for not being very good in real cold weather or is it normally pretty good ?

Anybody had this problem with their 740 Ti ? Any suggestions as to what might be the cause(s) of the problem ? The car runs perfect otherwise.
