Bumper mount (energy absorber) replacement 700 1991

Wife got in a minor fender bender. Right, passenger, side energy absorbing mount for bumper was pushed in, side of bumper, by wheel well is touching right front tire. Appraiser from insurance co agrees that it is the only damaged part. Want to do the work myself. Two questions:

1. Can I pull the bumper back out to allow temporary use of car while waiting for new mount/energy absorber to arrive?

2. Does anyone know the procedure to replace the mount/energy absorber?

FWIW, the bumper structure is very simple on the 1991 740: there is a plastic bumper cover, then an aluminum bar behind it. The aluminum bar or extrusion is mounted to the car by two piston/shock absorber-like "energy absorbers." On my car, the right side one is pushed in and needs to be replaced.

There is no other damage at all to the car - built like a brick, I say.
