NO POWER please help 200

I was making a hundred mile trip last night and was half way there and stopped at a stop sign, and my 1988 240 would not move!! It idled fine, it wasn't running hot, and there were no strange noises. I rolled it down hill and started to move only there barely any power. I got it 5 miles down the road this way, and let off the gas some and had a little more power, enough to maintain 40mph. When I gassed it heavily there was no power again, and it backfired a lot. Car was not running hot and made it home. My cell phone ran out of battery life while calling allstate and I had to stop at a house where I saw people in the yard to use a phone, and they were all high and on crack cocaine and they claimed to be mechanics. They all wanted to work on my volvo, and when I told them thanks, but I do my own work. I almost got shot. Worst night ever end of story. Please give me some ideas. By the way the fuel pumps filters and strainers are almost a year old. I replaced the fuel relay from the bone yard about 9 months ago. My girlfriend went to the local sketch gas station earlier yesterday and got 2 gallons I later filled up with mid grade at a top tier gas station.
