Secondary temp gauge readings (for Volvodad) 700 1987

Hi folks,

The mechanical water temp gauge I installed seems to work - or at least deliver consistent readings. I took an extended stop-and-go city drive, and observed some interesting things.

The gauge is mounted in the engine block drain port. Getting that drain cock (the bigger side) out was a bear. I used my 24" breaker bar.

Anyway, I noticed that the in-dash gauge, for the sensor in the head, began to warm up before I even noticed the block-mounted one start to move off the peg (the peg is on the '100F' line). When the in-dash one was straight up in the middle, the second one read 180F. After about 20 minutes of driving, and thereafter, it read a perfect 200F.

I was driving in stop-and-go traffic on hilly roads, driving with a slightly heavy foot. For most of the journey, I had the aux fan running (via my in-dash switch). It's a humid 75F out today, with fits of rain.

Hope that my experience is interesting to a few of you.

Thanks,

Ari
