Alternator - high mileage problem 700

On our '86 740T, the car started dying intermittently. Found two strange items. The plastic tee under the dash that supplies vaccum to the HVAC system was split. As I was fixing that I noticed that the voltmeter was showing almost max, near the red. Checked with voltmeter and sure enough the reading was over 15.5 volts at the battery. Started to pull the alternator and found that when I removed the large plug into the regulator - a piece was left in the back of the voltage reg/brush holder. The plug is made up of two terminals, round female pins in a rubber molded housing. Note this is not the large red wire that is suppling voltage back to the battery- this must be the feedback to the regulator(????)

Looks like after 23 years and 255,000 miles the end fatigued. I was able to repair- very cobbled - but works. Voltage went back to normal range. Surprised I didnt fry any important items =like the ECU.

Two questions- where does the other end of this harness go and can I buy this harness - dealer item I would assume. Any other parts i can substitute?thanks
