Just to get picky here - it's a Throttle SWITCH, not a Throttle Position Sensor, though the names seem to get interchanged even by the Volvo parts counter gents. A TPS has a potentiometer that tells the computer where the throttle is throughout its full range of motion, and in more sophisticated systems, tells it how fast the position is changing, for such things as fuel enrichment, auto trans kickdown, light cruise fuel leanout, etc.
The TS on your 83 tells the computer whether the throttle is totally closed or not, so the computer can then operate the Idle Air Control system to keep idle speed constant, but stop trying to do that as soon as the throttle opens a hair.
I seem to recall that the TS also sends a signal to the computer at wide open throttle, for fuel enrichment, or whatever...not sure about that one.
Anyhow you have a switch, not a sensor. Did the LH 3.1 systems on one or two years of the latest 240's use a true sensor? Don't know. Well, end of rant.
