My friend needs help 900 1995

My friend stopped by today and asked me to go for a ride with him in his 95 940 to see if I could figure out what is wrong with it. Today was its first trip in a couple of years after we got it running last week. He said on the way to my house it dropped out on him while driving. When it dropped out he said the tach would drop but it would fix itself before an out right stall. We drove it around and no problems. When he went to leave it would not start. I told him I would assume an ignition problem from the dropping tach. I pulled the coil wire off the distributor and had him crank it. In 15 seconds of cranking it would fire around 3 times. Sometimes the engine will hit on one cylnder. What could cause such a random or weak spark?
