Volts...Amps...what's the difference? 120-130

Hi Cameron,

To be honest with you I don't belong discussing what you call the "silly old cars" in this forum having not so much as ever sat in one.

But as you can tell, I enjoy successfully helping someone with invisible electrical phenomena, when not understanding it could lead to a beautifully restored piece of Volvo history going up in flames. That's what fuses are designed to help prevent, and that is the subject of this thread.

In pursuing my enjoyment, in general, I find many folks won't write a post asking for help without making some kind of assertion regarding the cause of their predicament. Often that assertion is incorrect. The most difficult part of replying with helpful advice is persuading someone to question what they know is true.

Now, it doesn't seem right to me a choke cable can be smoked through a source of 12V through a 10A fuse (and this is my assertion), so the vague suggestion to have another look at it could be made more specific: Look for another source.

But, not being there, I could be all wet. In fact, the choke cable could be all wet -- with lube. The wound steel sheath and its grounding point could be such a lousy electrical path it does pass less than what it takes to blow a 10A fuse, but in doing so gets warm enough to heat up that cable lube to stinking temp. I draw the line at melting plastic, but that is what I would double-check.

Hey, I enjoy reading your posts even though I never have anything worth saying!

Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One went to Hollywood and became a famous actor. The other stayed behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much. The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser of two weevils.
