Thanks to everyone their input. My son took it back to the dealer, who apologized profusely and is going to put the air mass meter back in the car. They said that it was a fault in the wiring harness and that they were going to repair it. He may decide to keep the car after all depending upon if the repair actually fixes the stalling problem.
