front struts/inserts 900



It's only late 960's that require you to replace the whole strut.

For 940's the insert is all that gets changed.

I used the Bilstein TC's on our 740 (same thing as your 940). They work fine... ride quality is the same as stock.

Swapping the inserts isn't a terrible job. While the parts are different, the *concept* is the same as on the 240's (see k-jet.org for a set of 240 service manuals). Pictures help.

As for what tools?:

A good set of hand tools.
A spring compressor (IPD and FCP both sell one that works... as does Harbor Freight)
I find that a big pipe wrench (AKA monkey wrench) or two is handy for getting stubborn gland nuts off.
An impact wrench (electric of air) really makes life easier. This is a good excuse to get one.

Finally, be careful with that spring. Respect it. There is a ton of energy stored in it while compressed. Don't point it towards your body, and while it's compressed and off of the car put it someplace "safe".
