Bushings 200

Have a 1989 240 with only 105k miles. Car is in great shape, but all the trailing and torque arm bushings are broken. Mechanic has quoted about $1k to do the work. Need some advise as to whether sinking more money into this car is worth it. Is replacing the bushings really necessary (car seems to operate fine with bushings in broken condition).
