water getting into rear lights shorting out ... 200 1993

recently replaced right rear lens with new circuit board and new bulbs...all worked perfect...but then on a very rainy day, shorted out lights...looked into lens and it took on some water...dried it out, replaced all including the circuit and changed the fuse and it worked again. Will find the crack and fill with a good silicon...will this work? Does the lens need a gasket? should I buy an aftermarket? Thanks
