Disc Brake Lining Shims 200 1977

Hello,

I was about to ask this question on the German message board for practice and because Brickboard seems to go down EVERY Saturday, but now it seems that Brickboard is back up.

Are the pad shims factory installed, or are they some aftermarket improvision? I purchased factory branded linings (Volvo Made in India) from FCP Groton. I had the option of purchasing Teflon shims, but decided that stainless steel would be the best choice of material.

I desire to use NO shims, instead of the filthy old stainless ones that were equipped. Is this a bad idea? Yes, the only reason I do not want the old ones installed is because they are dirty.
