Tailgate hinge wiring 200 1993

Hello all,

I'm doing my first tailgate rewire job and found that the right side of my 93 has a wire that straps the two halves of the hinge together. This wire is not present on my 84, the only difference being the addition of the third brake light on the 93.

Is this an extra safety to provide ground to the tailgate by Volvo.

I wolud think one of the remaining wires would also carry a ground. The design of the hinge makes it somewhat difficult to replace this wire.

My question is can I replace the harness wires and not repair the strap wire and still have everything work, without replacing the hinge?
