Failures on that Chrysler controller are virtually unknown. (NMI) 200 1986

Finding a more up to date ignition system would at least give me one less thing to worry about when they are away from home.

Sounds a little like the pain of a bee sting coming from an engineer.

All the while, because you are an engineer, you know implementing any other solution than the one it came with is inherently less reliable.

But to be helpful, knowing you wrapped the fuel harness up in the steering shaft last week, be aware the ignition harness is attached thereto under the intake manifold, in order to collect TPS information and send out timing for the injectors. Maybe the yank put stress on the V/C's connector? Otherwise, you'd have a hard time convincing me a Megasquirt and spark conversion would seriously be more reliable in a grocery getter than that bulletproof, potted V/C ignition controller. (Aside from its dodgy connector of course)
