Seems there is a discussion here a couple of years ago on how the Vclassic article was written:

Basically, it states to do it like in the 240 greenbooks (no need for a diode):

If that doesn't help, I have a complete '75 240 ignition setup with all the wires attached, I tested it, and it works. So, I can take some pictures of how it's set up.
