During the process of looking for a replacement fuel pressure regulator I've found that there are several Bosch part numbers that interchange with Volvo's part number.
**All of the following are identical Bosch made 3 bar pressure units (finish may vary):
Volvo OEM 3517064 = Bosch 0 280 160 294 *or* 0 280 160 226 (depends on year specified on Bosch's web site)
Plus: Bosch painted them black for BMW- part no 13 53 1 722 040 (e.g. 1990 325i E30) = Bosch 0 280 160 249
VW (e.g. 1992 Jetta) 0 280 160 235
Porsche (I think) 0 280 160 258
Which one did I use? I went black BMW version for visually blending better in engine compartment.
FPR is one part worth shopping around for, prices vary with incredible difference.
My replacement report:
Cold car. Removed gas cap. Removed vaucum hose (small size). Undid bolts and pulled away from injector rail. I swear there was no o-ring in there! Small tablespoon of gas came out- used rag to absorb. Loosened clamp on fuel line and twisted line off easily, again tiny bit of gas. Overall I expected more gas flow. I don't if this typical, maybe another indication FPR was dying?
Put used replacement FPR into rail and made sure o-ring fit snug, and it did without issue. Attached bolts, attached vacuum hose, attached fuel hose, easy replacement. Car started with minor hesitation; second start was typically quick and normal.
*Note there is a grey spacer that is necessary for fuel rail fit:
It works with o-ring to make tight seal. Kit Volvo part 1346393 (Bosch 1 287 010 704; parts were made in Spain per Volvo label) Ordered from Fisher and discovered later it was missing one o-ring and this grey spacer- counter guy didn't know it should have three o-rings, one grey spacer, one yellow cap. Re-used spacer from old FPR instead.
*Fuel line hose:
Replaced fuel it for peace of mind, although wasn't necessary. Volvo fuel line is 1266500 now superceded to 9179420 and is 7.5mm ID. This is another $30 per meter hose. I dug around google's version of the web and found this excellently detailed web site for VW van hose: Ratwell Fuel Hoses. Found out that the Mercedes fuel line is 7.5 ID (part 916030-000527) Ordered some for $11 from Pelican Parts (find by part number) and it worked great.
Heh, I didn't realize how much had to share! DaN
