Preemptive Starter Replacement 200

Interesting question.. I am not sure an actual life span, however, I just pulled mine last night on a 200169 mileage mark(240 1991). It was bad in the sense of a bearing issue and not the solenoid. Made an awful growling sound after the engine started. Seemed slow to turn as well but always started.

It was not the easiest job as I tried several tricks to move the transmission over, but ultimately dropped the transmission low enough to gain room to put on an 18mm socket, swivel, six inch extension and a three inch ext. Then an impact driver to get the top bolt out.

All in all, it was a rewarding job as the new one just pop into place and now it sounds like a full power starter engaging very well. I just hope I don't fall into a warranty issue and have to take it out again too soon!

Good Luck
JW
