Electrical Puzzle 700 1987

I've got a rotting wiring harness in my 87 760 Turbo, and I need to patch it together enough to a) get to the salvage yard & find a new harness, b) get to doctors appointments sometimes, (my wife is pregnant), and c) get it to a parking spot when I go on vacation, (2 hours away on the highway).

I spent most of today re-insulating wires and have been through pretty much the whole harness, however the car still isn't running like it should be. Here are the symptoms:

- It's running super rich
- Stalls when it's put in gear, (probably because of the rich running).
- It idles OK when in park or neutral, and will remain at an idle for a long time, but it's still spewing smoke, (I think because of the richness of the mixture).
- Things are worse, (idle rougher, dies faster in gear, etc), when the headlights are on.
- If it's been running for a while and I shut it off it's very difficult to restart, often impossible, (flooded?)
- The oil pressure warning light comes on sometimes, and flickers sometimes, and is off sometimes. If it's been idling for a while and I press the gas the oil pressure light comes on somewhere around 2000 RPM.
- There seems to be oil circulating. When I take off the oil filler cap with the engine running there's plenty of oil splashing around the camshaft. Also, I checked and was down 1/2 litre of oil and topped it up so there's enough oil in there.
- The dashboard clock seems to not run if the engine isn't running.
- Also, there are 2 female spade connectors, both with rubber hoods, that aren't connected to anything on the driver's side, (it's a left-hand-drive car). I'm not sure if they're supposed to be connected to anything or if they're "extra" or test points.
- I checked 2 of the 4 spark plugs and they're pretty black, (from the rich running), but in good shape other than that. They were replaced last summer.

I *think* that's it.

So, the question is, where should I be looking for a short or loose connection based on the description? I've covered up all of the bare wires on the cold side of the engine, and insulated the mess of bare wires by the main grey harness connectors.

To me it seems like maybe there's not enough power in some part of the system and that's providing a low reading to the ECU, which is then injecting more fuel than it should. Does this make sense to everyone, or just me?

I'm open to thoughts.
