Gas Smell in 1996 960 900 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 960 with 208k miles.

I recently replaced the fuel rail with the newer style (not me, but the Volvo specialist did it). I also replaced one of the ignition control modules because cylinder 5 was misfiring (I did it myself). All that background info to say that I now have a strong fuel smell inside the cabin when I turn on the heat.

A bit more info that may or may not be relevant. After replacing the ICM, I started the car to make sure everything ran OK (it did) and was putting the big black hoses back together with the electrical connections to the MAF and all back together (sorry for my layman description). I plugged the electrical connector back to the MAF while the car was running, and it caused the car to almost die for a second, but it got back to idling pretty quickly and ran fine. A few days later, I started the car and the check engine light came on and I read the code -- P0102 MAF or VAF A Circuit Low Input. Like I said, this may or may not be relevant to the fuel small, but I thought I'd disclose everything.

Do you have any ideas of why I'm getting a fuel smell? It's a new fuel rail.

Thanks,
Chris
