Hot wire from ignition to coil 444-544 1958

1958 444---I was wondering if it's normal for the thick wire that runs from the ignition switch to the bottom of the coil to get very hot while running the car. Seems like that would not be a normal condition unless there's a lot of current being drawn. I need to do some other electrical work on this car so it's possible I have some kind of grounding problems, also, but maybe this particular thing is normal?
