850 GLT DIED AGAIN , HELP!! 900 1996

Ok brief synopsis , car died a few months ago on the road , towed , cranked no start , replaced coil and i was fixed(maybe)it ran fine for a few months, starter replaced about a year ago, cheap version , now I was driving home tonight from Bodega Bay (yeah "The Birds")
and it died suddenly after a weird jerk ,now it wont start and the starter seems to spin without engaging , there was also the smell of gas in the last few days
anyway what should I check first ???
friend came by with his code tester and got
