IN-TANK Pump Priming Sound?? 200 1988

I just installed a brand new in-tank fuel pump that I tested for correction rotation and before that I also checked the fuse and the wires & ground to the pump but I DO NOT HEAR it's priming sound that I have heard on other 240's before I crank the engine.
Question?? What year did the 1 or 2 second priming sound become part of the system?
This is an 1988 240 gasoline version Automatic Sedan. The Sending Unit works fine.
